Dry distillation carbonization furnace and rotary carbonization furnace

April 22, 2025

The pyrolysis dry distillation gasification furnace is actually a dry distillation carbonization furnace, which is mainly used for producing carbon and the heating method is external heating. The full gasification furnace currently in use is mainly internal heating. The gasification furnaces with external heating methods include dry distillation carbonization furnaces and rotary carbonization furnaces.

Dry distillation carbonization furnace

The dry distillation carbonization furnace is a device used to distill raw materials at high temperatures to produce carbides. It usually consists of a closed reaction chamber and a heating system. During the dry distillation process, the raw materials are thermally decomposed in an oxygen-free or low-oxygen environment to produce solid carbides and other gaseous by-products.

The dry distillation carbonization furnace is usually divided into a preheating stage, a drying stage, a carbonization stage, and a carbonization stage. The preheating stage is to heat the raw materials to a certain temperature so that they have good thermal stability and fluidity; the drying stage is to evaporate the moisture in the raw materials; the carbonization stage is to heat the raw materials to a high temperature in an oxygen-free or low-oxygen environment to decompose them into solid carbides; the carbonization stage is to discharge the generated carbides from the furnace.

The characteristic of the dry distillation carbonization furnace is that the raw materials are isolated from the air and do not come into direct contact with the fire. It belongs to an external heating carbonization furnace. It is widely used in the fields of preparing carbon materials and recovering precious metals, and has the advantages of high efficiency, environmental protection, and energy saving.

The main product of the dry distillation carbonization furnace is carbon, and the by-product is gas.

The main product of the gasification furnace is gas, and the by-product is carbon.

Horizontal carbonization furnace, also called rotary carbonization furnace

The rotary carbonization furnace is a commonly used carbonization equipment, which is characterized by the fact that the furnace body can rotate, so that the material is evenly heated in the furnace, thereby realizing an efficient and rapid carbonization process. The equipment usually consists of a furnace body, a heating system, a rotary mechanism, and an exhaust system.

In a rotary carbonization furnace, the material enters the furnace body through the feed port. As the furnace body rotates, the material tumbles continuously in the furnace, making it evenly heated. The heating system provides a heat source to gradually increase the temperature in the furnace. The material is decomposed by heat in an oxygen-free or low-oxygen environment to generate solid carbonized products and gas byproducts. The rotary mechanism controls the rotation speed and direction of the furnace body to ensure uniform heating and carbonization of the material in the furnace. The exhaust system discharges the generated gas byproducts out of the furnace.

The rotary carbonization furnace has the advantages of compact structure, easy operation, high carbonization efficiency, and good product quality. It is widely used in biomass carbonization, waste treatment, energy recovery and other fields.

The main product of the rotary carbonization furnace is charcoal, and the byproduct is gas.

The rotary carbonization furnace has both internal heating and external heating.

Both the rotary carbonization furnace and the dry distillation carbonization furnace are mainly charcoal and gas is secondary. The gas production is small and is not suitable for use in thermal energy projects for steam supply.

The choice of carbonization furnace or gasification furnace should be based on the purpose and raw materials, rather than simply calculating the economic benefits.
